A Healthy Way to Make a Shamrock Shake!

Updated: Apr 2, 2019

When you think of March, do you think Shamrock Shake, Shamrock Frappuccino or whatever other kind of "shamrock" goodies are out there, and then find yourself diving into the green abyss of a sugar coma? Fast forward a month later and you find yourself wondering why those pants you were wearing in February were nice and loose and now you need to let your belt out a notch... or hell, just toss them to the side and pull out your pair of Pajamajeans! Keep your car in park because once you try this amazingly healthy, rich and creamy version of the Shamrock Shake, you won't be visiting the drive-thru any time soon!

SHAMROCK PROTEIN SHAKE

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup of spinach

  • 1/4 avocado

  • 1/2 banana (frozen is best and make sure it's nice and ripe)

  • 1 scoop of vanilla whey protein (I used The Firicano Whey)

  • Handful of ice

  • 1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk or coconut milk

  • Stevia to taste

  • Few drops of mint extract or you can use fresh mint leaves

  • *Optional: Cacao nibs for garnish

DIRECTIONS:

Blend all ingredients in a blender, top with optional cacao nibs or chia seeds. Enjoy!

And if I still haven't convinced you to swap out my healthier version, take a quick look at the facts:

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: That ONE Mc. D's Shamrock shake contains a whopping 20 teaspoons of sugar! Women should only have around 7 tsp of sugar a day, while men should only have around 9 tsp a day. So this one shake is giving you almost two and a half times your recommended daily sugar intake!
